Rabbi Haviva Ner-David is a rabbi, author, spiritual companion, and activist. She is the founding director of Shmaya: A Mikveh for Mind, Body, and Soul (on Kibbutz Hannaton), the only mikveh in Israel open to all to immerse as they choose; there she officiates and creates immersion ceremonies and facilitates workshops. Haviva’s books include three spiritual journey memoirs, two novels, and a children’s book about mikveh. The main focus of her activism since moving to the Galilee over fifteen years ago (aside from her mikveh work) has been building partnership among Jewish and Palestinian Israelis to affect social and political change in Israel. Over the past two years this has also included demonstrating tirelessly against the current government. Haviva also founded (together with one of her daughters) FSHD Israel, a support and advocacy group for Israelis like her and two of her seven children who live with this degenerative genetic neuromuscular disease.
