December 7, 8 (in person and online)
Shabbat Zimrah brings the mystical sounds of Arab Jewry to the TBZ sanctuary. Co-led by Artist-in-Residence Yoni Battat on the oud, this service will utilize traditional and original melodies to chant excerpts from Shir Hashirim and the psalms of Kabalat Shabbat, followed by Ma’ariv. (Reading Song of Songs is a Mizrahi Friday night tradition practiced year round – not just on Shabbat Shira!)
On Thursday night before each service, join Yoni in person or online for Hazmanah L’Zimrah (Invitation to Song), where Yoni will teach these melodies and about the musical traditions that they come from. If you have a personal connection to Mizrahi ancestry or culture, we’d like to especially invite you to be a part of leading this prayer circle by attending Hazmanah L’Zimrah and sitting towards the center on Friday night. ALL are welcome to join and be a part of this regardless of your background, and we’re excited for this to be a space that continues to lift up the Mizrahim within our own community.
