with Hadar Boston, co-sponsored by TBZ
Sundays, March 19 & 26 @ 7pm
and Matzah Baking Demonstration on April 2
Part One – March 19: Singing Through Seder: Hallel – A Case Study
R. Elie Lehmann, Director at Hadar Boston
Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward St, Newton, MA
Sandwiched right before and after the main meal of Seder night, Hallel often gets little attention. Sometimes it’s skipped altogether. Why is it there at all? We will explore midrashic, halakhic and contemporary texts in an attempt to make Hallel a beloved part of your next Seder.
Part Two – March 26: Singing Through Chaos
R. Aviva Richman, Rosh Yeshiva at Hadar
Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward St, Newton, MA
Song of the Sea is often thought of as the first song Israel sang as a people, celebrating a moment of triumph and redemption. But according to midrashim and legends in the Talmud, our first song was earlier – still in the depths of Egypt! Join us to explore texts about singing in darkness and chaos, considering the ways song and prayer can hold the very dynamic roller coasters of our lives.
The cost for each lecture is $10 and includes dinner beforehand. If finances pose an obstacle to participation, please reach out to
programs@hadar.org and we would be happy to accommodate.
There will also be a Matzah Baking Demonstration on Sunday morning, April 2nd, hosted at Kehillath Israel (KI) in Brookline. More information coming soon.
