On Tisha b’Av Jews recall the brokenness which accompanied the destruction of the ancient Temples in Jerusalem and we sit with the brokenness of our world today. This year we’ll gather to share our grief at all that has transpired in Israel/Palestine since October 7.
As we reflect on traditional themes of exile and groundless hatred, we invite the greater Boston Jewish community to join us in a welcoming space where we can share our pain and our sorrow. We will give voice to ways that we have personally experienced exile within our communities, and together we’ll grieve the loss of Jewish and Palestinian lives. Finally, building on the tradition that the Messiah will be born on Tisha b’Av, we will turn towards hope and possibility, lifting up our voices for an end to violence and destruction. As Tisha b’Av comes to a close and we enter the seven weeks leading to the Ten Days of Teshuvah (between the High Holidays), we will be offered optional action steps to (re)turn to a path of justice and of peace.
